notebook

Notes are the raw material of writing.  It's become customary to describe one's notebook: as if it somehow reflects on the writer and their art. My notebooks vary, from moleskins and muji notebooks to index cards and margin scribbles.  I've ordered them chronologically and by first sentences, for want of any other way of organising what is, in effect, random notes, thoughts, ideas and observations
